Heinz Philip Kadisch was born on September 24, 1914, in Berlin Charlottenburg to Siegfried and Lina Kadish. Very little is known about his early lifetime given that most relatives of his perished in the Holocaust and much of our information comes from the recollection of our mother, Anneliese Hunkins.

We do know that he fled Berlin in 1936 to his Aunt from Lina’s side of the family in England. Ship manifests of the SS Volendam indicated arrival in New York City, USA on October 6, 1936. During his time in America he listed semiskilled painter, truck driver as his occupations.

He returned to Europe in 1957. After resettling in Berlin, he was able to regain control over his father’s estate including residential real estate in Solinger Str and Levetzow Str in Berlin Moabit. That property was destroyed during World War II and was in ruins. In partnership with our mother, Anneliese Hunkins reconstruction funds were secured, and the properties were built to their current state.  Heinz Kadish continued to live in Berlin at his property while self-performing painting, maintenance, and repair tasks until his death from cancer on October 4, 1985. He was active in the Jewish community and gave generously to philanthropic causes. His wife, Helen Kadish, nee Balka predeceased him.
