Ephraim Gotthold Simon was born in Berlin on November 14, 1864, the son of Dr. phil. Max Simon and his wife Henriette (née Reich). On March 3, 1898, he married Cäcilie Simon (née Leppmann). The couple had three sons: Ernst Robert (*15.03.1899), Friedrich Max, later Fritz Michael (*19.09.1901) and Hans Rudolf (*24.07.1908). Initially living at Tauentzienstraße 12B (Berlin-Charlottenburg), Ephraim and Cäcilie moved with their youngest son Hans to Siegmundshof 13 in Berlin-Tiergarten in 1933. 
The merchant Ephraim Gotthold Simon was director of the company ‘Hahnsche Röhren-A.G. & Albert Hahn Röhrenwalzwerk in Berlin, Grossenbaum near Düsseldorf and Oderberg’ until his retirement in 1932. In 1938, the ‘Hahnsche Werke’, where he had worked for 51 years, were ‘aryanised’ and bought by Mannesmann company.  
On 21 November 1938, Ephraim Gotthold Simon died of cancer.
