Survived
Born at Rosdzin, Silesia, Germany (now a district in the city of Katowice, Poland), 22 March 1875; died at Kensington, California, USA, 24 December 1966; daughter of Isaak and Helene (Lustig) Schlockow. She is occasionally referred to with a middle name Marie, but used it seldom. Like Friedrich, she came from probably exclusively Jewish roots but had never lived in a particularly observant household. She spent most of her childhood in Breslau, where her father had a medical practice with considerable emphasis on occupational medicine. He and Friedrich’s brother Arthur had collaborated on Der Preussische Physikus (Berlin: Enslin, 1886, and later editions). She demonstrated notable capabilities as a soprano early in life, and had a good working acquaintance with the piano repertoire.
After Friedrich’s death, she remained for a time in Holland, Michigan; stayed for a few months with son Ulrich and his family in Moorestown, New Jersey; and then moved to Berkeley, California, where she lived with son Joachim for many years before moving to facilities offering more intensive nursing care. She died at a nursing home at Kensington, California, near Berkeley.
