Paul Herrmann was the son of Alexander Herrmann. He was born on August 19th, 1885, in Berlin, Germany. He was deported to Auschwitz on November 29th, 1942 and murdered at Auschwitz sometime before May 8th, 1945. Paul Herrmann worked as a bank manager, and then for the Jewish municipality as the chief accountant in the finance sector. Paul’s nephew, John Hirschberg (nee Hans Hirschberg) remembers that Paul would write poetry and could read books and draw pictures very quickly. John also recalls that Paul figured out how to take color photographs; he knew the chemical formulas even though he didn't have a science degree. He was so productive with his art and photography that he only slept four hours a night.
