Julius Siegmann was born on 25 November 1873 in Berlin. In 1910, he bought the property at Carl Schurz Strasse 39 in Spandau, complete with the pharmacy “priviligierte Adler-Apotheke”, where he worked as a pharmacist. In 1913, he married Jadwiga Cukier. Jadwiga was born on 28 February 1880 in Zawichost, Russia.
On 24 October 1920, their daughter Olga Siegmann was born.
In 1939, Olga emigrated to England aged nineteen to escape deportation by the Nazis. Her parents also planned to emigrate. In 1941, they bought a plot of land in Brazil. However, on 23 October 1941 the Reich Main Security Office announced a ban on Jews emigrating with immediate effect. The Siegmanns could no longer realize their plans to move abroad. On 9 January 1943, Julius Siegmann was issued a so-called declaration of assets to complete, giving details of all his assets and information about his family. His assets were subsequently confiscated.
Just five days later, on 14 January 1943, he and his wife were taken from their home and deported on the “81st transport of the elderly” to Theresienstadt. One year later, in 1944, Julius and Jadwiga Siegmann were deported from the Theresienstadt old people’s ghetto to Auschwitz.
Julius and Jadwiga were most probably murdered on the day of their arrival in Auschwitz, 30 October 1944. Olga Stanley, née Siegmann, survived the war in England.
